THE ARTISTS
|
Twenty-five, five-foot painted grizzly sculptures will form an unprecedented exhibit on the streets of Cody, Wyoming and the surrounding area during the summer of 2008. These limited edition painted sculptures, created by twenty-seven artists, form an outstanding body of art, an exhibition to stimulate the intellect and delight the spirit. The sculptures will be sold at auction on 4 October 2008.
Don’t confuse the art of the grizzly with the normal fiberglass animal project. From conception to final touch of color, these animals are unique painted (one is mosaic) sculptures, their themes drawing on such diverse sources as popular culture, traditional Western art, Indian folk art, and environmental and ecological movements. The works are marked by beauty of form, by lush, vivid color, and by strong compositions. Inspired by the painted bronzes of Cody sculptor, Harry Jackson, and the body of work of the project’s honorary co-chairman, James Bama, the project comprises the talents of a group of artists who embrace various artistic mediums and a variety of styles ranging from Western to early modernism to conceptual and mosaic art. The germ of the idea began with Jeff Rudolph’s maquette of a seated grizzly. Using a medium of styrofoam and plaster and with the small clay model as a starting point, he created a work in which art and life mingle in the iconic form of a relaxed grizzly, long claws a reminder that this is the most dangerous animal on the American continent. Jeff’s work, which is both playful and haunting, was reproduced, becoming a body of twenty-five fiberglass replicas. |

| Other artists will be enhancing 9" models. These will be juried with the winners presented at silent auction. Prizes will add to the fun and challenge--placing going to the top sellers. But don't forget the other bears, which will be retailed in Cody and Yellowstone during the summer of 2008. Given the high standards of the local art community, these are bound to be splendid buys. AND, additional merchandise will be available for the collector. | |||||||||||||||
